General Info

The Food Peddler sits comfortably at 2602 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, IN 47150, United States, and it has the kind of laid-back charm that makes Southern restaurants feel like home. From the moment you arrive, the experience feels unpretentious and welcoming, the sort of place where comfort food takes center stage and the menu speaks for itself. It’s a spot locals return to often, and visitors quickly understand why it earns steady, positive reviews.

The menu leans confidently into classic Southern flavors, with BBQ ribs standing out as a highlight dish. They’re cooked low and slow, tender enough to pull apart easily, and packed with that rich, smoky flavor people expect from a true Southern kitchen. Pairing those ribs with braised greens and cornbread feels natural here. The greens bring a savory depth, while the cornbread balances everything with a soft, slightly sweet bite that completes the plate without trying too hard.

Dessert is not an afterthought at The Food Peddler. The German chocolate cake slice is a favorite for good reason. It’s indulgent without being overwhelming, layered with flavor, and served in a way that feels homemade rather than mass-produced. It’s the kind of dessert that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment, even after a filling meal.

Service options are simple and convenient, which adds to the appeal. Dine-in is relaxed and family friendly, making it easy to bring everyone along without feeling rushed. For days when staying in the car makes more sense, kerbside pickup is available and handled smoothly. Payment is straightforward with credit cards accepted, and the free parking lot removes any guesswork before you even step inside.

Whether someone is checking reviews for a dependable local restaurant or looking through nearby locations for authentic Southern cooking, this spot fits naturally into the conversation.

“ (Update) I went back and got ribs this time, there were amazing!! So tender and good. Cornbread was better and I got butter this time. Baked potato was good. My kiddo loved the ribs to and said he wants to go again. The waitress was super nice to! Just tried this place for the first time. Went past it many times and never noticed it. I think a bigger sign could help them. First off you get alot of food with a dinner! What I had here was very good, fish was perfect. I would highly recommend. My only small complaint would be the peice of cornbread that I got tasted a bit dry or overdone but not that bad still, I should've asked about butter or honey for it, and the little cup of tarter was half full and definitely not enough for 3 huge peices of fish! If I had stayed instead of getting take out I could've just asked for more. But I'm not going to deduct a star for that, I want to support local and it was good. Maybe they can take note of these minor complaints from what was still a great meal! ”

“ Stumbled across this restaurant and so glad I did. Home cooking, local owners and friendly people. I will definitely be back. The meatloaf was delicious and the green beans had actual seasoning, I could tell they had simmered the way beans are supposed to be simmered. Clean restaurant in a nice quant space. ”

“ What a true new local gem to the city of New Albany. I found this posted on Facebook so decided to try it for lunch with my husband. The atmosphere while welcoming, you can still tell they're still trying to get things situated. That's why the rating is a 2, though not necessarily a terrible thing, especially for a locally veteran owned establishment. I can't wait to see how it it improves over time. Service while slow, and honestly seemed overwhelming to the young lady taking orders and serving food, Ebony was a pleasure and could tell she was taking everything in stride, even with unpleasantries from other customers being so critical of service. It was a trio team today and they did an amazing job despite orders coming out slow. Give them grace and hold out because it was worth the wait. The results? Some of the best dang food I've ever tasted. I had the rib dinner while my husband had the fried pork chop. Everything was cooked and season to perfection. The ribs fell off the bone due to its juicy tenderness. My husband's pork chop was nicely fried and not greasy! The sides were just as great! Nice portions for the price as well. I would advise getting their early due to they tend to run out of things however the day I went, the owner said it was their busiest day! I hope the community rallies with this restaurant and showers it with continued success! ”

“ Went here for the first time today. Ordered the fish dinner to go. The staff was friendly and engaging. It was clean and had a nice atmosphere. When I got home my food was hot and fresh and tasted delicious. Will definitely be going back to try more of the menu. ”

“ I rate those place my max rating that's Fire to the 5th! I got the ribs, collard greens and mac n cheese. The ribs were ginormous. I gently pulled every bone out and ate the meat with my fingers. Pulled apart like butter! The greens were prepared properly, something you can't find around here; Cooked right with a light smoky flavor... yum! And then there's the home made mac n cheese...again, prepared perfect! Washed it all down with fresh sweet tea. I could tell cause I had to stir it to mix the warm tea with the ice cubes. Again tea was great! I was offered peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream after my meal...are you kidding me?! Fresh warm peach cobbler with ice cream! So dang good! Come check this place it for yourself, you'll be glad you did! ”
